First Announcement
==================================
Hot Quarks 2012 Workshop - HQ 2012
===================================
First Circular
We are pleased to announce that the next workshop in the Hot Quarks
series will be held October 14-20, 2012, in Copamarina, Puerto Rico.
The aim of this workshop is to enhance the direct exchange of
scientific information among the younger members of the Relativistic
Heavy Ion community, both from the experiments and theory. Therefore we
especially want to encourage postdoctoral fellows, advanced graduate
students, and junior faculty and research staff to apply.
Topics that will be addressed include:
- QCD at high temperature/density and lattice QCD
- Initial state effects and Color Glass Condensate
- Relativistic hydrodynamic and collective phenomena
- Correlations and fluctuations
- Jets in the vacuum and in the medium
- Baryons and strangeness
- Heavy flavor, dileptons and photons
- Applications of String Theory and AdS/CFT
- Experimental techniques and future programs
The format of the workshop is morning and afternoon/evening sessions
consisting of short (~15-20 min) presentations. Each session is
followed by a relatively long (~1hr) Question&Answer (Q&A) session. The
KKG Award is presented to the best presentation at the conference. The
prize is dedicated to the memory of Klaus Kinder Geiger,
who perished in the Swiss Air flight 111 from New York to Geneva in
1998. Active participation by all is encouraged in the Q&A sessions.
All participants are expected to be present at the workshop premises
throughout the duration of the conference.
Ample free time between lunch and the afternoon session and after
dinner is planned in order to enhance such informal interactions. The
number of participants will be restricted to <80. Every participant
will give an oral presentation.
If you are interested in attending HQ2012 please register through our
workshop website at http://hq2012.bnl.gov after March 1st. Due to the
limited number of participants, and the usually high interest in attending
this workshop, speakers will be selected from this list after the specified
closing date and notified via Email.
Further details about the program and the workshop venue will also be
posted on this web page.
A lively, informative discussion is anticipated at the meeting, leading
to progress in advancing the state of the knowledge of relativistic heavy-ion collisions.
Please distribute this email within your collaborations and local
groups.
Sincerely,
The Hot Quarks Organizers ( Markus Bleicher, Helen Caines, Manuel
Calderon de la Barca Sanchez, Rainer Fries, Raphael Granier de
Cassagnac, Boris Hippolyte, Andre Mischke, Agnes Mocsy, Hannah
Petersen, Lijuan Ruan, Carlos Salgado)

Important Payment Info
Dear HQ Participants,
Its great that you have all agreed to come to HQ in Puerto Rico. We are looking
forward to an interesting week of talks. As mentioned in our invitation you
are expected to attend the whole conference and to share a room. We have now
published a participants page (http://hq2012.bnl.gov/participants.html) and we
encourage you to take a look and try to identify a room mate. When you have
selected a room mate you both need to go once more to your HQ registration and
enter the name of the person you wish to share with in the appropriate spot.
If you don't know any of the other participants don't panic we will allocate a
room mate for you.
Also ** very important ** you need to pay for your accommodation by September
10, 2012. You can do this by calling the Copamarina Reservations department
directly at +1 800 468 4553. You need to mention that you are part of the Hot
Quarks 2012 group and you will be charged $700. This fee covers a shared room
for the whole of the conference, all your meals (including when you arrive on
Sunday evening) and proceedings. The Copamarina resort has a list of all the
participants names and they are expecting your call.
We are looking into organizing buses from the local airports to the Copamarina
resort. We will send more information on this option
soon.
If you would like to have a single occupancy it will cost you $550 extra.
If you would like to bring a companion not involved in the conference the
charge is $1170 extra, which includes sharing the room with you and all their
meals (they can join in the coffee breaks if they like).
If you would like either a single occupancy room or to bring a partner please
still call the Copamarina reservations and pay your $700 but **also** mail
helen.caines@yale.edu to organize paying the extra fee.
Thanks
The Hot Quarks Organizers
